About Jim Miller Pump Station

Our History

The Jim Miller Pump Station facility has provided safe and reliable water to the Dallas community since 1964.

The pump station and reservoir are an important part of the city’s water transmission system, supplying water to 40% of Dallas Water Utilities’ 1.3 million customers. The reservoir holds 20 million gallons of water, and the pump station serves more than 500,000 residents.

The pump station has performed well for customers and the public for decades. The Jim Miller Pump Station site is located east of North Jim Miller Road and between ERL Thornton Fwy (I-30) and Forney Road.

Project Overview

Due to the facility’s age, the pumps and control systems currently in use are nearing the end of their service life. The Jim Miller Pump Station improvements will allow for continued use of safe and reliable water service to the community for decades to come.

Upgrades to the pump station include replacing older parts with new, up-to-date pumps, piping, electrical and control equipment and other operational features.

All the facilities we rely upon in our communities have expected lifespans, and water pumping and storage are no exception. Routine maintenance and programs such as this project successfully extend the life of city facilities.

Project Timeline

Upgrades to the Jim Miller Pump Station is scheduled to begin August 2022. The project is expected to be completed by December 2025.
